Young Bertha lives in an unsettled town. A town frightened of itself, dreaming of a different life for its ancestors and children. Nobody is aware of the ghost of Bertha’s little brother, visiting her every so often. They hug. They tell secrets. The marks on her hands –tiny red stars– multiply. Here’s a girl with a magical gift: she foresees the future and stores in her memory things long forgotten. Miss Mirage, her painting teacher at school introduces Bertha to a powerful antidote: art and the extraordinary lives of the masters. Balthus, Caspar Friedrich, Magritte, Caravaggio and Darger arrive to transform Berthas’ life as well the whole town.
